Steve’s birthday ride 1

This ride had been organised ages ago by Steve’s wife. A bit of a worry, it might have rained! Well it did – about 10 drops, very nice they were too, other than that it was dusty and 30C+, scorching! Prior to Wednesday Steve had confined his attentions to the environs of Les Gets, this gave me the chance to show Steve the best of “the other side of Avoriaz”, namely Chatel and a step into Switzerland. Comments such as “the best 40 euros ever ever spent” went down well with me. I’m sure I heard a “best ride ever” but I can’t remember who from.IMG_0228smallrev

The riders were Steve (Birthday Boy), Simon (BB’s brother in law), Sam (Simons son), Nick (work experience).

The route was…. Les Gets, Morzine (via Les Mouilles), Super Morzine, Zore, Swiss Superhighway, Mossettes, GR5, Avoriaz, the blue route, lunch at the Marmotte, Chatel bike park via panoramic, twice down serpentine, back to Linderets, Avoriaz and the Free Raid route home (with Stinger 1, 2 and 3), back up the Pleney and down to Les Gets.

I screwed up a bit with the GPS – so here are the stats – 65km, 4,500m of descent.

And a Google map of the route

It was indeed the best 40 Euros spent in a very long time and a great birthday outing, many thanks. Panoramic and Serpentine were definite highlights. (though I should have stood at the top for the photo….. short arse)
