Quick blast up La Grande Terche 2

I’ve recently moved out of Morzine and down to St Jean d’Aulpes. Completely coincidentally on the very same road as Gareth (the other guy posting stuff on here and owner of endlessride). This week I’ve been catching up on work and tied to my desk. But, as luck would have it, just down the road from here is the Grande Terche ski area (it’s on the Portes du Soleil pass, just not linked) – The lift opens every Sunday and Wednesday during the summer. So I decided to take a quick break from work to re-discover an old favorite trail of mine that’s usually only accessible by climbing.

The trail is pretty technical: plenty of super tight switchbacks, steepness all around, and singletrack that you certainly don’t want to drift off of! It also benefits from being that bit out of the way – you’ll almost never see another rider on the track – certainly no big DH bikes from Morzine – it’s way too far to pedal back on those things.

Haven’t heard about this one before – a ride for next year?

Yes, lets – BUT – it’s a tricky one, just 5 minutes from my back door in St Jean d’Aulps and I’ve ridden them once before (in the 10 years I’ve been here), the lift is open Wednesday’s and Sundays – so either our regular day off or a day when I rarely guide anymore AND they need to be bone dry. The grassy section is cool (the one with the views of Morzine in the background), sooo steep that when I got off the bike to take photos I ended up sufing down the grass on my flat shoes. I laughed!
