La Bourgeoise descent to Samoens 0
The Chamonix weather forecast said to expect 100% sunshine. We had a group in (Kat, Mat, Mark and Rob) who had just mountain biked the TMB (Tour de Mt Blanc), they were after some big views (apparently the weather had not allowed many “big” views on the TMB) but not too much pedalling. We know just the track for this. After crossing through Les Gets you head over to the Col de Joux Plan, from there you can follow you nose over to La Bourgeoise and some really amazing views of Mont Blanc. The descent from here is (it has to be dry) top 3 in the region, 900m and the downhill is 90/10 singletrack/4track. Marked as #50 on the Samoens MTB map.
We added “the extension” (#61 on the MTB map) which drops us into Samoens for lunch. In the afternoon we used the new GME (Grand Massif Express) to access another good descent back to the valley (900m of vertical, #53 on the map), we followed this with a blast down the river trail to Taninges via a quick dip in one of the lakes along the way. Here we met up with Sian for some uplift home. Carl had been around during this trip, scouting for new tracks. He rode 2, one which was a success and the other which answered some questions. They are bound to feature in later posts.
We spotted this hand cyclist going over the Joux Plan. Respect. It was 30C in the shade. It will have been hell for him.
