Col de Lachat on Mt Chery 0

(Guest blog from Sian) . Today’s ride took us over to Mt Chery, it’s the first time I’d ridden there this season , which is surprising as it is one of my favourite areas in the pds, since the Kona bike park has relocated and the second chairlift doesn’t allow bikes, Mt Chery has become very quiet especially with the freeride / dh guys, which makes it a great destination for XCriding we used the first lift and pedalled up the 4wd track towards mt caly, from devant chery we headline smallclimbed up to the ridge, after admiring the stunning panoramas of mt blanc we descended down the ridge to the Col de Lachat, at the col we took a right and headed into the trees , this section of trail is great fun , swooping pedally singletrack, with a few tricky roots and a couple of stream crossings, as you approach the latter part of this section the trail becomes a tad more technically demanding as the ground falls away steeply and the rider is faced with some tight steep switchbacks becoming progressively more difficult , after the last switchback you land on the tour of Mt Chery trail , from here we took a right and enjoyed the fast non technical descent to the cafe at the Col Encranaz , here you can refuel , I can highly recommend the savoury crepes , after lunch we rejoined the tour Mt Chery trail and continued clockwise to Lassare , this section is known as the dangerous trail as it has suffered from mud and landslides in previous seasons , the riding on this part of Mt Chery reminds me of a UK trail centre , good fun short descents with challenging short climbs , just before we arrived at Lassare we headed left down through a field and into the woods at La Chavanne, the trail into the woods is a very steep 4wd track , a definite test for anybody’s brakes ! The trail does mellow towards La Plancouard and is more enjoyable , from La Plancouard we climbed up the road to the chapel then descended on the cut throughs to the river trail for a gentle pedal back to Morzine.
